23th WTB: Ikastolas

23th WTB: Ikastolas

Kaixo listeners of What the Basque!!

This week, we bring you a program about ikastolas (basque schools). What are they? How were they created? Inma Muñoa from Ikastolen Elkartea will help us understand about it: how families own the school, how they take parte in the decissions…

Last time we produced an episode about STEILAS union (sectorial for education) and we mentioned Ikastolas, you might be interested on that one, check it out too!

Afterwards, we´ll learn about a similar experience, in the north of Poland, by the Kashubian people. We knew about this thanks to Garabide and they are in a process that reminds the very begining of the ikastolas. We will interview Anna Kościukiewicz-Jabłońska and Artur Jablonsczi from the Kaszebsko Jednota association and they will explain to us how they are doing.

Thank you, friends, and keep going!

This programme is produced in Hala Bedi radio, in the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz, and it’s broadcast on Tuesdays (19:00-20:00). Also broadcast in Melbourne, the last Friday of every month, by 3CR. We want to say hello to our friends in Australia! 3CR Community Radio, don’t give up the fight!!

22th WTB: STEILAS (education union)

22th WTB: STEILAS (education union)

Kaixo listeners of What the Basque!! This week, we bring you a program about STEILAS. A sectorial union that works for the rights of the workers in the education field, but understanding that as a great concern for the whole society.

In a previous episode we learned about ELA and LAB Basque unions. Today we will interview Nagore Iturrioz, a member of STEILAS. These are the questions that we made her, do you want to know what she answered?

Kaixo Nagore, could you introduce yourself, please? When did you join Steilas? What was your work previously?

When and how was Steilas created? (40th anniversary…) Has it changed since the begining?

What’s the difference between Steilas and other unions? In size and caracteristics? (And distribution all over EH?)

Is it true that other unions (LAB, ELA, CCOO, UGT…) are usually blamed for giving up to easily? Is Steilas hard in the negotiations?

What are your resources? And the strategies?

Basque Autonomous Gobernment recently signed an agreement on education with LAB and you were angry with that union (ELA and Steilas were angry). Could you explain to us what happened? Later Steilas, LAB, CCOO and UGT signed an agreement, was it good enough? Why hasen’t ELA signed?

Do you think there are too many unions? Or do you think it’s a good idea to develope specific unions instead?

ELA and LAB unions have a very interesting tool. Do you think Steilas should have a “Resistance box / Fighting Cashbox”? Or it’s differen in your case? (Hezkuntza publikoan kriston langile pila daude eta greba orokorra izan ohi da, erresistentzi kutxa batekin greba luzatzea zaila litzateke, ta de hecho igual irakasleek ez dute hainbeste diru prekarietate, poltsikoak eutsi dezake..?).

What was Steilas’s last successful campaign and how was it organised?

Is Steilas concerned about teachers’ conditions only? Or also about other kind of workers in that branch?

What are your working fields in Steilas?
-Is feminism important for you? Why? How do you fight for it?
-Is segregation an issue? What’s the situation? Who is responsible?
-What about religion? Is that OK to teach religion or you don’t accept it at all? Do other unions have the same opinion?

Are unions present in private schools? What’s your opinion on that kind of school?

And what about coop schools, alternative schools..? In general, what’s Steilas’s point of view on them?

What about ikastolas (again)? They were very important for the recuperation of Basque language. And, on top of teaching in Basque, they were and maybe are a space of didactics innovation. What does Steilas think about Ikastolen Elkartea, the cooperative net of private basque schools?

Does Steilas think the same about ikastolas of other parts, where the public education system still doesn’t offer a real option to learn in Euskara? Such as Iparralde in the French state or the south part of Navarre?

Does Steilas have any national or international alliances? …

Play the podcast below if you want to listen what she answered (and our super smart comments too).

Finally, this week in Nor-Nori-News section we will talk about the detention of Evaristo Páramos, the singer of some historic punk music bands. After a concert in Jerez de la Frontera, he was identified by the police a few days ago… Spain is getting more and more inquisitor! Back off!! Let the people alone!!

Kaixo entzule! What The Basque irratsaioaren “import” saio bat prestatu dugu gaurkoan. Zer ote da hori ordea? Oraintxe ulertuko duzu!

The Final Straw irratsaiotik harturikoa da gaur entzun eta Arabako uhinetan partekatu dugun lehen podcasta. Interneten gabiltzanean arrasto bat uzten dugu, ondoren publizitatea egindako bidearen arabera agertzen zaizula sumatu duzu inoiz? Eta txat pribatu batean esandakoak ere kontuan hartzen ote dituzte? Zure mugikorrean kokapena pribatuki mantentzen duzula uste duzu? Nola egin GMapsek eta horrelakoek non gauden eta norantz goazen jakin ez dezaten? Horrelako gaiei buruz hitz egingo digu aditu batek gaurkoan. Altarnatiba gisa, anarkisten aparailu miragarri bat proposatzen dizugu: mapa bat! xDDD

Entzungo dugun bigarren podcasta ere irratsaio berekoa da eta mugen inguruan hitz egingo digute: aireportuak, mugikorra enkriptatzeaz, muga pasatzeaz… ondoren guztia komentatuko dugu Hala Bedi irratiko estudioan, Camille izena dugu hiru esatariok, noski!

Espero dugu gaurko saioa gustatzea, gogoratu munduan zehar ingelesez egiten diren irratsaio interesgarrien bila gabiltzala, eta baten bat ezagutuko bazenu, pila bat eskertuko genukeela abisua ematea. 21. WTB: Basque Unions (ELA and LAB)

21. WTB: Basque Unions (ELA and LAB)

Kaixo listeners of What the Basque!! This week, we bring you a program about Unions. Are they strong in Euskal Herria? Not much? Are there (too) many? …

In Rub the Skin section, we´ll try to show the situation to you with two interviews. First one will be to Ioritz Iglesias from ELA union and the second one to Ibai Intxaurrondo from LAB. Both of them did great! Aupa zuek!! These are the questions that we made them, do you want to know what they answered?

Welcome Ioritz… (from ELA)

-When did you join ELA? How old are you? Where have you worked previously?

-When and how was ELA created?

-Has it changed since the begining?

-What’s the difference between ELA and other unions? In size and caracteristics?

-Is LAB the most similar to ELA? Why are they split?

-Is it true that other unions blame ELA for giving up to easily? Is that fair?

-Do you think there are to much unions? Do you think it’s a good idea to develope specific unions, such us Steilas for the education branch?

-ELA union has a very interrsting tool, which other unions lack. How is the “Resistance Cashbox” financed and how is it used?

-What was the last successfully campaign and how was it organised?

-In which branches do you think ELA is stronger? Are those branches the most precarious working fields?

-How could we improve the conditions of those working fields that usually don’t join unions?

-What is different about Basque unions?

-Are there any national or international alliances?

-Is there anything else you’d like to add?
-And any song you’d like to suggest?

Welcome Intxa… (from LAB)

-When did you join LAB? How old are you? Where have you worked previously?

-When and how was LAB created?

-Has it changed since the begining?

-What’s the difference between LAB and other unions? In size and caracteristics?

-Is ELA union the most similar to LAB? Why are they split? Why should workers join LAB?

-Is it true that other unions (ELA, CCOO, UGT…) are usually blamed for giving up to easily?

-Is LAB hard in the negotiations? What are your resources? And the strategies?

-What’s socialism for you?…

-Is LAB related with Sortu political party? Does the party rule the union in some rate? How is LAB organized?

-Basque Autonomous Gobernment has recently accepted and signed the demands of the Ertzaintza police unions. But it doesn’t happen with education workers, why is that?

-Do you think there are to much unions? Do you think it’s a good idea to develope specific unions, such us Steilas for the education branch?

-ELA union has a very interesting tool, which other unions lack. Do you think LAB should have a “Resistance Cashbox”? [LAB has one too!]

-What was LAB’s last successfully campaign and how was it organised?

-In which branches do you think LAB is stronger? Are those branches the most precarious working fields?

-Are unions present in coops? If so, is the percentage of union members in these companies higher than in other similar companies? In general, what’s your point of view on coops?

-What is different about Basque unions?

-Are there any national or international alliances?

-Is there anything else you’d like to add?
And any song you’d like to suggest?

As ussual, we didn´t get to talk properly about Iparralde (and the variety and division there is about unions), neither we talked with people from Steilas, CCOO, UGT… and many other working class fighting movements. But let´s save those for future episodes!

For Hala Bedi Method, since we´ve been talking about Unions… we´ll learn some words related with the word “one”, which is “bat” in Basque: batasuna, batera, bakar, bakarrik…  Are you intrigued? Have some fun and learn a bit of Euskara with us!

And finally, this week in Nor-Nori-News section we will talk about the demobilization of ETA; about the weak judgement that came out last week in the trial for a gang rape (!!) in San Fermin festivals; also about the trial of a bar fight in Altsasu that has been manipulated by the Spanish media to make it seem an act of terrorism…

Kaixo entzule! What The Basque irratsaioaren “import” saio bat prestatu dugu gaurkoan. Zer ote da hori ordea? Oraintxe ulertuko duzu!

The Final Straw irratsaio anarkistaren atal hau da gaur entzun eta Arabako uhinetan partekatu duguna (2018-04-14ko podcasta). Oso interesgarria da Camille-k azaltzen duena ZAD-eko egoerari buruz… Poliziaren erasoak, barne arazoak, kontra egiteko kausa garbi baten “beharra”…

Espero dugu gaurko saioa gustatzea, gogoratu munduan zehar ingelesez egiten diren irratsaio interesgarrien bila gabiltzala, eta baten bat ezagutuko bazenu, pila bat eskertuko genukeela abisua ematea. WTB import 5: “Basics Card” txartela eta Australiako indigenak

(Programa grabado en inglés, castellano y euskera sobre los indígenas de Australia, podcast abajo)

Kaixo entzule! What The Basque irratsaioaren “import” saio bat prestatu dugu gaurkoan. Zer ote da hori? Oraintxe ulertuko duzu! Audio hauek dira gaurkoan eskainitakoak:

Hasteko, Australiako 3CR irratiko podcast bat entzungo dugu. Bertan, RGI moduko bat daukate, baina super siniestroa… distopia puta bat ematen du. Basics Card” izena du eta estatuak emandako oinarrizko errenta non gastatzen duzun kontrolatzeko diseinatuta dago. Zehazki, komunitate indigena batekoei sorturiko arazoak ezagutuko ditugu. Ingelesezko elkarrizketan azentu indigena izango dugu… beraz prestatu belarriak! Ondoren frankismoko “racionamiento” garaiarekin konparatuko dugu. Benetan larria Australian dagoen arrazismo egora indigenekiko, adibide batzuk ezagutuko ditugu gaurko saioan.

Ondoren, Stolen Generation delakoari buruz ikasiko dugu beste elkarrizketa batekin. Guraso bat indigena eta bestea zuria zuten haur asko lapurtuak izan ziren (normalean emakume indigena eta aita zuria). Australiako gobernuak barkamena eskatu zuen publikoki, ez zela inoiz berriro gertatuko adierazi zen, baina kontua da jarraitzen duela gertatzen… Izugarria benetan, indigenen egoera.

Espero dugu gaurko saioa gustatzea, gogoratu munduan zehar ingelesez egiten diren irratsaio interesgarrien bila gabiltzala, eta baten bat ezagutuko bazenu, pila bat eskertuko genukeela abisua ematea.
